Jaw clenching and teeth grinding can place significant tension through the muscles of the jaw, particularly the masseter muscles - the strong muscles we use for chewing.
For some people, persistent overactivity can contribute to jaw tension, aching, headaches, tooth wear and a feeling of tightness or fatigue through the lower face. Treatment with botulinum toxin (Botox®) works by reducing excessive activity within the masseter muscles. The aim is not to stop normal jaw function, but to reduce the strength of involuntary clenching and grinding and allow the muscles to relax.
At Longeva™, treatment is individually assessed according to your symptoms, muscle strength, facial anatomy and previous treatment response. For clients with significant jaw tension, treatment may also be complemented by Longeva™ sculptural facial and intra-oral buccal work, where appropriate, to help address muscular and fascial tension through the jaw and surrounding tissues.

Results & longevity
The effect develops gradually as activity within the treated muscles reduces. Many clients begin to notice improvement over the weeks following treatment. Individual response varies, particularly where clenching or grinding has been longstanding or severe.
Treatment typically lasts approximately 3-5 months, although longevity varies between individuals. Repeat treatment may be recommended according to your symptoms, muscle strength and response.
Things to know
Jaw clenching and grinding can have multiple causes. Botulinum toxin may help reduce excessive muscular activity, but it does not treat every underlying cause of bruxism or jaw pain.
Where symptoms suggest dental, temporomandibular joint or another medical issue requiring further assessment, referral to an appropriate health professional may be recommended.
All treatment is subject to individual clinical assessment and suitability.
Investment
From $450 | 45 minutes
Treatment commonly requires approximately 60 units of Dysport®, although dosage varies according to individual muscle strength and treatment requirements. Your recommended dosage and total investment will be discussed before treatment.
Treatment Review
At Longeva™, your care continues beyond the treatment itself. Mitch recommends that all new clients return for a complimentary review approximately two weeks after their first treatment. This allows her to check that everything has settled and is working as expected, answer any questions and ensure you’re happy with your result.
You won’t necessarily require a review after every future appointment, but it is particularly recommended following your first treatment at Longeva™.
